Australian Moodle hosting, development & consulting

About TechLearning

Independent Moodle specialists in Melbourne. Moodle is the whole business - not one service line among ten.

TechLearning hosts, builds and maintains Moodle for Australian training providers, schools and enterprise learning teams. That is the entire business. We do not also build marketing websites, run ad campaigns, or resell a dozen other platforms – and that narrowness is deliberate, because it is what lets us tell you what is wrong with your Moodle in the first conversation rather than the third.

What we are

  • Independent. We are not a Moodle Partner. There is no partner margin in what you pay us, and no partner badge either. Both are true; decide for yourself which matters more for your procurement.
  • Melbourne-based, working nationally. We work AEST/AEDT and adjust maintenance windows for clients in other timezones rather than assuming everyone runs on eastern-state time.
  • Small and technical. The person who answers your email is a person who works on Moodle. There is no account-management layer between you and the work, which is the main advantage a small team has and we would rather not waste it.
  • Australian infrastructure. Client Moodle sites run on AWS in Sydney or Melbourne. You choose the region and we name it in writing.

The part of Moodle most providers never see working properly: reporting that answers the question someone actually asked.

What we are not

Most disappointment in this industry comes from a supplier agreeing to something outside their competence. So, plainly:

  • We are not a student management system vendor. We do not sell one, build one, or resell one. If you run an SMS we integrate Moodle with it. If you do not have one, we will tell you honestly that Moodle is not a substitute.
  • We do not do compliance reporting or regulatory submissions. That belongs with your compliance team and your SMS vendor. Our job is making sure Moodle holds clean, exportable delivery and assessment data so those people can do theirs.
  • We do not run an anonymous ticket queue. Support is 24/7 for critical incidents with published response targets, answered by people who know your environment – not a first-line desk reading a script.
  • We do not write course content or do instructional design. We build the platform your content runs on.
  • We are not a learner help desk. Learner and trainer questions are best answered by someone inside your organisation who knows your courses.

How we work

Staging first, always. Nothing reaches production without running somewhere else first, and every change has a way back. Scopes are written down before work starts – including what is explicitly out of scope – and if something during the build changes the shape of the job, you hear about it when we find it rather than at invoicing.

Where a problem can be solved with configuration or an existing community plugin, we will say so, even though it is a smaller invoice. That judgement is most of what you are buying from a specialist.

On being independent rather than a Partner

Moodle Partners are commercial organisations licensed by Moodle Pty Ltd, and a share of what you pay them supports core development. That is a genuinely good thing and a fair reason to choose one.

What being independent gives you is a direct relationship with the people doing the work, no minimum contract size shaped by a partner network, and advice that is not steered toward a particular product tier. Neither model is universally better. We would rather set out the trade-off than either hide the answer or oversell it – and if a Partner is the better fit for your procurement rules, we will say so.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Are you a Moodle Partner?

No. We are an independent provider. Moodle Partners are licensed by Moodle Pty Ltd and part of what you pay them funds core development, which is a fair reason to choose one. Independence gives you a direct relationship with the people doing the work and no partner margin. If your procurement rules require a Partner, we will tell you that up front.

Where are you based?

Melbourne, working with clients nationally. We work AEST/AEDT and adjust maintenance windows for clients in Western Australia, Queensland and South Australia rather than assuming everyone is on eastern-state time.

Do you only work with RTOs?

No - registered training organisations are a large part of the work, but we also support schools, universities, government teams and enterprise learning functions. What they have in common is Moodle mattering enough that it needs to be run properly.

Will you tell us if we do not need you?

Yes, and we do it regularly. If a problem is solved by configuration or an existing community plugin, saying so is the whole point of hiring a specialist.

Talk to a Moodle specialist

Tell us how you deliver training and what is not working. We will tell you what we would do about it, and whether we are the right people to do it. No charge for that conversation.
